ULC’s 2x2 is an outreach program that started in 2014 with the goal of sharing the Good News to young people. Our primary outreach locations are the Tuscaloosa County Juvenile Detention Center, and the Benjamin Barnes YMCA in Tuscaloosa.
The goal of 2x2 at the Juvenile Detention Center is to help each resident discover God’s love and their talents through music, arts and crafts and Bible study. We also focus on learning the Lord’s Prayer.
The 2 x 2 program at the Benjamin Barnes YMCA shares the Good News during the fall and spring semesters. Kids from K-8thgrade participate in weekly meetings where the 2x2 volunteer leads groups in music, art and Bible stories. An annual highlight is the Christmas story where the birth of Christ is presented to parents through costumes, songs, and acting.

Before University of Alabama home football games, members of the church park cars on our grounds. We enjoy meeting fellow Bama fans, and the conversations that follow. It is not uncommon for people to share prayer requests with members of our church.

This group meets every second and fourth Thursday at ULC for quilting and fellowship. Ruthie has taught many of the group’s members how to crochet. Items made by ladies are donated to veterans, Lutheran World Relief, nursing homes, Caring Days and special individuals as needs arise.
